What is EXIF Data?
Exchangeable Image File Format (EXIF) is a standard that specifies the formats for images used by digital cameras and smartphones. When you take a photo, your device hides a large amount of data inside the image file.
What does it contain?
- GPS Coordinates: The exact location (latitude/longitude) where the photo was taken.
- Camera Details: Make, model, shutter speed, aperture, and ISO.
- Timestamps: The exact date and time the image was captured.
Why remove it?
Privacy. If you upload a photo of your home or children to social media or a forum, hackers or stalkers can download that image, view the GPS data, and know exactly where you live. Using this tool strips that data completely by regenerating the image pixels without the metadata headers.
